The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued regulations requiring all public water supply (PWS) systems to develop a Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) of both water system owned and your privately owned service lines.
While these contaminants are not present in the source water, they can potentially enter tap water through the corrosion of service line piping and older household plumbing materials. In compliance with drinking water regulations, the City is now required to send out surveys to all service locations and request our valued customers to complete them.
This is a monumental task that will be managed by Public Works and the Utility Department. The surveying process will kick off at the Bel Aire Fall Festival, followed by inserts in the November Utility Bill, and repeated reminders through February. In the spring, it may be necessary for staff to go door-to-door to collect the required data from residents who have not completed the survey.
To encourage compliance and reduce the need for door-to-door visits, we will be offering a credit of $50 to one active utility account each month between October and February for those who complete the survey.
