  • City code requires all backflow prevention devices to be tested every even-numbered year by a certified technician licensed to conduct business in Bel Aire. During a testing year, test reports must be submitted to the City by June 1. Click here for a current list of licensed contractors that can potentially offer backflow testing services.

Testing is not required during odd-numbered years, and device rebuilds are only necessary if it fails a test.

Homeowners may disconnect their systems themselves, provided City specifications are followed. Disconnections must be reported to the City for inspection and recordkeeping.

For questions or to schedule an inspection, contact the Building and Zoning Inspector at (316) 744-2451.

  • Backflow prevention device rebuilds and replacements must be performed by a certified technician licensed to conduct business in Bel Aire.

A permit is required when the device serial number changes, which typically occurs during a replacement but not a rebuild. The certified technician shall test the backflow device and file test results after a rebuild or replacement of a backflow device.

  • Installation of a lawn irrigation system requires a city permit, whether the homeowner or a Bel Aire licensed contractor installs the system. Further, it is the responsibility of the building and premise owners to have each backflow preventer device tested and inspected immediately after initial installation. Thereafter, lawn sprinkler backflow devices shall be tested, and test results filed in even-numbered years.
