The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Bel Aire City Council have approved the next step for the Woodlawn reconstruction project. This approval clears the way for reconstruction to begin in spring 2026, weather permitting.

The design, which has undergone KDOT’s thorough review process, calls for a full reconstruction of Woodlawn between 45th Street and Quail Ridge Street. This will involve removing unstable subsurface soil and installing an underground drainage system to address groundwater. South of Quail Ridge Street to 37th Street will receive more moderate improvements, including the installation of a similar drainage system outside the existing curb and gutter, followed by milling and overlaying the roadway with new asphalt.

A pre-construction meeting will confirm the start date and outline the construction timeline. This meeting is anticipated to take place in early spring, with construction beginning shortly thereafter.
