[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Updates for City Services and Activities

COVID-19 Updates

Updated 3/18/2020

In an effort to maintain social distancing and do what we can do to reduce the spread of the novel COVID-19, City buildings have been temporarily closed effective March 18th. City services will remain operational by phone or e-mail. Please see below for more details specific to what you may need.

During this time, the City has suspended utility disconnects and waived online utility convenience fees. Waste Connections has suspended recycling for the next month and recycle containers will not be picked up.

The Police Department will be reducing a few non-essential services. However, they will continue to provide all essential law enforcement services to the public.  If you are in need of police service, call 911.

We will continue to monitor the situation in order to best serve you as well as keep our employees safe.

Updated 3/13/2020

Due to Sedgwick County’s public gathering ban limiting public gatherings of no more than 250 people, the City is canceling the Spring Festival scheduled for April 4th.

Updated 3/12/2020

Due to ongoing concerns regarding a potential outbreak of COVID-19, otherwise known as the Coronavirus, and the fact that the seasonal influenza (the FLU) virus is also widespread, we are taking proactive steps to address a number of concerns. First and foremost, we want to maintain a safe workplace and encourage practices protecting the health of employees, customers, visitors or others. We also want to ensure the continuity of operations in the event of a pandemic.

We ask all employees to cooperate in taking steps to reduce the transmission of communicable diseases in the workplace. Employees are encouraged to follow these guidelines:

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your mouth with tissues whenever you sneeze, and discard used tissues in the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid people who are sick with respiratory symptoms.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces.
  • Implement an end-of-day routine cleaning phones, keyboards, and workstation.

The City is limiting the number of group activities and public interactions that can be postponed at this time. All Bel Aire sponsored senior events are canceled until further notice per CDC advisement as seniors have been identified as a particularly vulnerable group. For groups that still continue to meet at City Hall, we are reminding them to take precautions or consider rescheduling if members are sick. The City is coordinating with our cleaning company to take extra cleaning measures for high frequent touch and high traffic areas.

Please remember it is critical that employees do not report to work while they are experiencing respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills or fatigue. Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that employees remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100 degrees F or 37.8 degrees C) or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

We appreciate everyone following these steps and will continue to update staff and the public with additional information concerning City activities.

For any concerns or questions about City services and activities, please contact Tristin Terhune, Director of Human Resources and Communications.
