The City of Bel Aire receives water from the City of Wichita and the Chisholm Creek Utility Authority, and is governed by water restrictions imposed by these suppliers. Due to continued drought in the area, Wichita is entering into Stage 2 drought response on Monday, August 5. This will limit irrigating to one day per week and Bel Aire will also be required to limit watering during this time.
Stage 2 will be enacted for two months during the heavy irrigation season, and then conditions will be reevaluated to determine steps moving forward. The goal during the two-month period is at least a 10 percent reduction in community-wide water use.
Here are the Stage 2 Mandatory Requirements for Residents and Businesses in Bel Aire, starting Monday, August 5:
• All outdoor non-crucial watering for lawn and landscape irrigation will be restricted to one day a week between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. Watering in the red zone areas can occur on Mondays, on Tuesdays for those in the blue zone, Wednesdays for the green zone, and Thursdays for those located in the yellow zone. No watering will be allowed on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
• Outdoor watering from rain barrels or household re-use water is encouraged.
• Residents using private wells for irrigation are asked to post a sign that states the use of a private well. Decreased usage is also encouraged for well users.
• Refilling of swimming pools (indoor and outdoor) is allowed one day a week on your designated irrigation day noted above, unless regulated by a constant fill water treatment system.
• Waste of water is prohibited.
• Food-producing gardens utilizing drip irrigation or hand watering shall be Stage 2 exempt. Businesses that generate their core economic activity from usage of outdoor water (such as car washes, nurseries, sod suppliers, etc.) shall be Stage 2 exempt.
