[ARCHIVED] Bel Aire Announces New Amazon Last-Mile Facility Coming to Sunflower Commerce Park

Bel Aire, Kan. – To meet growing customer demand, Amazon has purchased 20 acres in the Sunflower Commerce Park located in Bel Aire. Plans call for the company to build a 176,000 square-foot last-mile delivery station. These types of facilities generally create more than 100 direct and indirect job opportunities while serving thousands of customers across Sedgwick County and beyond.

This marks Amazon’s first facility in Bel Aire and their third in the Greater Wichita region. Construction is expected to begin soon with a completion anticipated in late 2025.

“We are thrilled to welcome Amazon to the community,” said Bel Aire Mayor, Jim Benage. “Sunflower Commerce Park was designed for just this; to support businesses and drive economic growth. We look forward to building a strong partnership with Amazon and to seeing the benefits this facility will bring not only to Bel Aire, but to the surrounding areas.”

This new last-mile facility will drive the final stage of Amazon’s fulfillment process, helping ensure fast, everyday delivery to customers’ doorsteps. Starting at further fulfillment and sortation centers, packages will be processed and prepared for last-mile delivery, improving delivery times for customers throughout the region and bringing even faster delivery to more rural communities.

“Bel Aire’s strategic location with direct access to major highways and reliable workforce, made it an ideal choice for this newest last-mile facility,” said Jason Vangalis, Amazon economic development manager. “Since opening our first area facility in 2020, we’re excited to grow our footprint in Kansas and create additional jobs as a good employer. This new facility will further enhance the speed and efficiency of our delivery network.”

Bel Aire has seen steady growth in the Sunflower Commerce Park, which features more than 800 acres of prime space for manufacturing and light industrial development. Its proximity to Wichita, along with direct access to rail and major highways, provides a competitive advantage for companies looking to expand.
